ClearWater Sensors

Prof. Matt Mowlem

Prof. Matt Mowlem is the founder, director and CTO of ClearWater Sensors and is Professor of Optoelectronics (Sensors) at the University of Southampton. He was previously the founder and head of the “sensors development group” at the National Oceanography Centre, UK where he pioneered the development and use of microfluidic “lab on chip” technology for oceanographic applications in chemical and biological sensing. He has published over 100 journal articles and holds 6 granted patents.

Dr. Pip Simpson

Dr Pip Simpson is the leading research and development chemist at ClearWater Sensors and is a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Bath (UK). She has ~15 years of experience of chemistry formulation and analytical chemistry in academia and industry including industrial formulations research and quality control. She has extensive experience and expertise in the development and application of lab on chip and reagent based analytical methods for environmental and regulatory applications.

Dr. Jonathan Butement

Dr Jonathan Butement is a research and development engineer at Clearwater Sensors. Jonathan has combined experience in academia and industry creating deployable lab-on-a-chip sensors, most notably flow cytometers for phytoplankton and microplastic detection. Jonathan combines his background in biology and optoelectronics to make novel sensors for the aquatic environment.
